The checks mainly took place at the motorway border crossings in Čunovo, Milhosť and Jarovce on Friday night, and most of the violations were recorded at the Jarovce-Kittsee border crossing.

Police officers from the Regional Traffic Inspectorate of the Bratislava Police Directorate, in cooperation with NDS staff, have announced that checks will continue throughout the summer.

NDS regularly reminds Slovak and foreign drivers not to forget the mandatory fees for using the Slovak motorway network. Drivers risk receiving a fine if they drive without a motorway vignette, whereas purchasing one via the www.eznamka.sk portal takes no more than five minutes.

“Drivers who do not use the motorways outside of the summer holiday season often forget about the mandatory charges for driving on the motorway. Forgetting to purchase a vignette can unnecessarily increase the cost of vacation. There are also short-term motorway vignettes on offer that do not put a significant strain on the family budget,” said Peter Braška, Member of the Board of Directors and Charging and IT Section Director at NDS.

NDS recommends that drivers purchase Slovak motorway vignettes through the only official website www.eznamka.sk that is selling motorway vignettes at guaranteed prices defined by law. “We recommend avoiding any reselling websites – purchasing through such portals not only complicates the complaint process—for example, in the event of a typo in the vehicle registration number—but motorists also end up paying significantly more for such purchases,” said Peter Braška, noting that every year, drivers lose millions of euros by purchasing vignettes this way.

Drivers can purchase the electronic motorway vignette and also complete the entire claim process on the website www.eznamka.sk. An online form is available on the website for various situations the drivers may face, with the most common issue being an incorrect vehicle registration number entered when purchasing a vignette. Drivers can also have a look at the map of charged motorway sections in Slovakia and check whether their vehicle has a valid motorway vignette.

NDS has streamlined the sale of electronic motorway vignettes and is continuously improving customer service. Recently, a list of frequently asked questions and answers for motorists was published on the website www.eznamka.sk, and the website was redesigned and updated. Last but not least, new payment options via Google Pay and Apple Pay have been added, and a one-day motorway vignette, which is popular with holidaymakers, has been introduced to the product portfolio.
