Errors in the information provided when purchasing a vignette are very common. Therefore, drivers should first and foremost check the confirmation of payment for the electronic motorway vignette. “We often deal with situations where customers are convinced that they purchased a motorway vignette and do not understand why they got a fine for driving on the motorway without one. After thoroughly analyzing the situation, we find out that, for example, an error was made when entering the vehicle registration number,” said Peter Braška, the Charging and IT Section Director at NDS. In addition to paying close attention when entering the required data, he recommends also checking the confirmation of payment. If an error is identified in time, it can be corrected.

Another case is when the driver does not receive the aforementioned confirmation of payment at all. This may be caused by several reasons, such as an incorrectly entered email address or a failed payment. NDS therefore recommends checking each time whether the confirmation has been delivered. Only then can the driver be sure that the vignette has been purchased. If a driver realizes that the payment has failed, NDS recommends repeating the payment. The payment amount will be refunded automatically. If not, the driver can request a refund using the online form at www.eznamka.sk.

It also happens that the family wants to surprise a family member with an unusual gift – a motorway vignette. They buy it without consulting the recipient and do not notice the automatic notification that appears when entering the vehicle's information, stating that a valid motorway vignette has already been purchased for the given vehicle. In this case, a refund can, of course, be requested using the online form at www.eznamka.sk. However, paying close attention during the entire purchase process is recommended to prevent such complications.

Drivers often end up paying more when buying vignettes through unofficial resellers. NDS regularly emphasizes that www.eznamka.sk is the only official sales channel, selling the motorway vignette at the guaranteed prices set by law. However, there are various reselling websites on the market that charge various additional fees on top of the motorway vignette price. NDS recently estimated that, in 2025, drivers overpaid the vignette purchases made through unofficial reselling websites in 2025 by more than four million euros, without receiving any added value. Not to mention the fake websites that do not process the vignette purchases at all, and cause drivers to disclose their personal data to an anonymous entity.

It can even happen to an experienced driver that he takes the wrong turn or unexpectedly enters a charged motorway section and realizes it only when seeing the traffic sign indicating a charged section. In such a situation, it is important to keep a cool head, as sudden changes in driving direction or risky manoeuvres significantly increase the risk of a traffic accident. However, drivers have to purchase the motorway vignette without further delay, e.g. at the nearest petrol station or online on the same calendar day. Such a delayed vignette purchase is an exceptional situation; NDS does not recommend relying solely on the possibility of purchasing the vignette on the way. Checks are conducted across the entire motorway network, and the driver can be checked anywhere while travelling. Therefore, a simple rule applies: use the motorway with a valid motorway vignette.
