Thanks to the new interchange, drivers can drive without any traffic jams e.g. from the Zlaté piesky city district to Jarovce and Rača. And they can just as easily travel from Jarovce or Rača to the city centre or to other city districts, such as Ružinov or Petržalka, using the D1 main route.

Drivers can connect to the D1 motorway towards Trnava not only from the main route but also directly from the D4 motorway outer bypass, which means that the transit traffic coming from Hungary or Austria can easily bypass the capital city and avoid the inner city routes. There is also a connection to Trnava from the district of Rača.

As regards the direction from Trnava towards Bratislava, drivers can connect to the D4 motorway in the direction to Rača or Jarovce (i.e. directly to the city outer bypass).

The importance of the D4/R7 outer bypass of the city is growing thanks to the D1/D4 motorway interchange. Free-of-charge sections in the Bratislava region significantly reduce the number of cars using the inner-city routes, thus contributing to increased comfort for Bratislava residents.

NDS reminds motorists that the D1 motorway in the Bratislava region is charged only from the D1/D4 interchange towards Senec and also in the opposite direction (from Senec to the D1/D4 interchange). Therefore, the D1 motorway from the Bratislava–Pečňa intersection near Petržalka up to the D1/D4 interchange is free of charge for passenger vehicles. However, the section beyond the branches leading from the D4 motorway – from Ivanka pri Dunaji and from Rača—onto the D1 towards Triblavina is already a charged section. If drivers plan to connect to the D1 motorway towards Triblavina (or Senec), they must have a valid motorway vignette.

The D4 motorway from Rača is free of charge up to the interchange with the D2 motorway near Jarovce. The D2 motorway is also free of charge for passenger cars up to that same intersection near Jarovce, starting from the Stupava intersection. However, the approximately two-kilometer-long motorway section of the D4 near the Jarovce/Kittsee border crossing with Austria is now a charged section. Motorists also need a motorway vignette for the few kilometers of the D2 between the Čunovo/Rajka border crossing with Hungary and the D2/D4 junction near Jarovce.

Motorists can also drive free of charge on the R7 expressway section from the Bratislava–Nivy intersection to the junction with the D4 motorway (Bratislava–South intersection). From there towards Šamorín, the R7 expressway is charged.

For better visual understanding, drivers can consult the map of the charged sections of Slovak motorways here: https://eznamka.sk/sk/spoplatnene-useky/siet.

NDS has gradually put the individual branches of the D1/D4 interchange into operation. The entire interchange, with all eight branches, was opened for traffic on June 21, 2026. However, even after the opening of just a few major interchange branches, it was possible to divert up to 2,300 trucks per day away from the heavily congested Prístavný Bridge.
