The National Motorway Company employees, in cooperation with the Slovak Police Force regional units, have been checking the motorway vignettes at various locations across the country. The checks confirmed that the drivers were disciplined, and 98 % of them had a valid motorway vignette.

Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s. (National Motorway Company, hereafter referred to as “NDS”) organised a regular check of motorway vignettes at several border crossing points to verify whether the drivers had a valid motorway vignette. “We have identified the times and locations with the highest number of drivers passing without a valid motorway vignette, so checking these locations had the biggest impact”, said Katarína Bartošová, spokeswoman of the Regional Directorate of the Police Force in Bratislava.

Vignette checks were carried out at border crossings in Milhosť, Svrčinovec, Čunovo, and Jarovce. The highest number of offences (4 %) was detected at the Milhosť border crossing in the direction towards Hungary. Out of the four locations of checks, the smallest number of offences (1 %) was detected in Jarovce in the direction towards Austria, and in Čunovo in the direction towards Hungary. In total, 4800 vehicles were checked at these four locations, with only 96 fines imposed, representing 2 % of the vehicles.

In Slovakia, the vignette payment enforcement system consists of static control gantries equipped with camera systems as well as field checks and mobile patrols. Dealing with the offences and imposing fines is not the competence of the National Motorway Company. Offences are managed by the relevant District Offices, and on-the-spot fines are issued by police officers.

“Especially before holiday travels, the drivers should not forget to purchase a motorway vignette, as the revenues from the sale of vignettes are invested into building safer and more comfortable road infrastructure,” concluded Peter Braška, the Charging and IT Section Director of NDS. The easiest and also the cheapest way to purchase a motorway vignette is via the official website www.eznamka.sk, which has been managed by NDS since last year, along with the entire system of electronic motorway vignette sales. Since then, several updates have been introduced, the most important of which are the creation of the 1-day vignette and the launch of the redesigned website.
