Due to the emergency situation in the vicinity of Sliač, the R1 motorway section between Zvolen and Banská Bystrica was temporarily exempted from tolls on Wednesday, November 26. From the first minutes of today, the R1 section is again subject to tolls.

One year in: 1-day vignette proves popular not only among foreign drivers

One year ago, on 1 August 2024, the 1-day electronic motorway vignette was introduced in Slovakia. It brought more flexibility and easier planning for drivers using the Slovak motorways. Popular not only among foreign drivers as one of the most practical holiday options, it is also favoured by Slovak drivers. During the first year of its existence, around 1,7 million 1-day vignettes were sold, with 61 % purchased by foreign drivers and 39 % by Slovaks.

The company has taken over the system of motorway vignettes and continues to update it to simplify the purchase of motorway vignettes and make it more user-friendly.

Vignette checks confirmed that drivers do not want to risk receiving a fine

The National Motorway Company employees, in cooperation with the Slovak Police Force regional units, have been checking the motorway vignettes at various locations across the country. The checks confirmed that the drivers were disciplined, and 98 % of them had a valid motorway vignette.

Do not forget to buy the motorway vignette before heading for vacation

The end of the school term and the summer vacation period are here, and we would like to take this opportunity to kindly remind you that buying a motorway vignette is as important as getting the luggage and travel documents ready. The start of the summer holiday season has for a long time been a period with the most fines recorded for driving without a valid motorway vignette. The fine itself can rise up to 200 EUR. Therefore, Národná diaľničná spoločnosť, a.s. (National Motorway Company, hereafter referred to as “NDS”) recommends purchasing the motorway vignette before hitting the road.
