During the summer season, drivers who do not regularly use motorways often hit the road as well, and they might overlook the requirement to pay road charges. When planning a trip, drivers should check whether their route includes any charged road sections. If they are not sure, they can easily check the network of specified road sections subject to vignette payment available at: eznamka.sk/en/specified-road-sections/network.

When drivers know that they will be using charged road sections, NDS recommends purchasing a motorway vignette before setting off. “We advise drivers not to rely on purchasing the vignette later on the way. The motorway police can stop and fine them at any time during the journey,” said Peter Braška, the Charging and IT Section Director at NDS.

It might also happen that drivers are not sure whether they have a valid motorway vignette or not. Instead of going through the emails, they can verify the vignette validity at this link: eznamka.sk/selfcare/modification/select/select-vignettes/?operation=Check

At the same time, NDS recommends drivers to purchase Slovak motorway vignettes through the only official website www.eznamka.sk and to avoid using various reselling websites that offer motorway vignettes at a higher price because of additional fees without offering any added value. On the contrary, purchasing vignettes via reselling websites can also complicate the process of filing a complaint, and above all, drivers often share their personal data with anonymous operators. NDS estimated that drivers overpaid more than four million euros on vignette purchases made through unofficial reselling websites in 2025.

NDS also recommends drivers to save the contact number to NDS Motorway Patrol (0800 100 007). In case of need or emergency on the motorway, NDS Motorway Patrol crews are always ready to help and provide a safety shield.
